From shabby to showstopper
Follow the transformation of a faded beauty we restored for the Decorative Arts Fair, London.
We sourced a lovely vintage drop-arm sofa from mid Scotland. Our cabinet maker stripped and prepared the frame, repairing the mechanism, replacing and repairing wood and joints and a decision is made to modify the frame for a more pleasing silhouette.
Our upholsterer replaced the webbing and hand tied the hour-glass springs in the seat. The piece has a sprung edge and the seat is stitched and covered with scrim. The edge is finished with a metal rod shaped to fit and the seat is covered with horsehair or coir and a calico layer.
The ball feet are finished by our French polisher.
A contemporary urban toile is chosen to complement the traditional style furniture, ordered from Timorous Beasties, a design-led manufacturing company in Glasgow. The toile shows scenes of modern day London.
